Critiquing Photography Challenge
Descriptive: My photo of a violin is descriptive because it simply shows the viewer what a violin looks like without any distractions.
Explanatory: My photo of a running faucet shows the phenomena of laminar flow, where the water flows smoothly in layers, creating the smooth stream seen in the photo as compared to turbulent flow.
Interpretive: Ben Hick's image of a sea turtle is interpretive because the scene can be seen literally as a turtle surfacing towards the light, but the viewer can also apply their own meaning onto it.
Aesthetically Evaluative: My photo of a pot of flowers is aesthetically evaluative because it captures the overall beauty of the flowers, berries, and leaves, as well as having a strong focus on the flower's in the foreground.
Ethically Evaluative: Paulo Oliveira's photo of a dolphin under a layer of plastic, from National Geographic, shows how ocean pollution negatively effects wildlife, especially with the plastic ring entering its mouth.
Theoretical: The image by Andy Batt is theoretical because it provides insight as to the equipment and effort used to shoot his photos for Portland Monthly Magazine.

Multimodal Presentation
Synopsis of Multimodal Presentation:
Berenice Abbott was an American photographer in the early to mid 1900s whose work mainly falls under the category of descriptive photography with some blending into interpretive photography. Her work spans many genres, starting from portraits to urban and architectural photography in New York to scientific photography. Within these photos, Abbott uses her choice of framing and perspective to convey her own views, but they can still be interpreted by the viewer.
My New Perception of Photography:
Upon reviewing Abbott’s works, I began to understand how much effort and thought goes into each shot, no matter the subject or type of photograph. Any photography can have the photographers intents and views behind them, no matter how simplistic or complicated a photo may look. Although I knew that photographers chose their subjects carefully, I hadn’t realized the extent to which their own interpretations could be scene in the photos they took.
